Using the New Continuum of Land Rights Model to measure tenure security: A case study of Itaji-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria

Tenure security in developed countries is generally explicit while developing it implicit. To reduce poverty, empower the poor, and ensure economic growth, of tenure essential. This study used New Continuum Land Rights Model (NCLRM) by Whittal (2014) to measure Itaji-Ekiti. A single case approach using qualitative method was adopted for research design. Four land right types emerged from study: informal occupation, formal customary, registered leasehold. These rights are interpreted triple vertical axes legitimacy, legality certainty. Despite strong legitimacy legality, results show that exists Itaji-Ekiti due weak Bad governance cause this. use NCLRM provides an understanding situation. model has potential development pro-poor policy could be as example other countries.
